Putting local business in touch with public sector procurement - Black Country Chamber and Business Link promotes tendering to Government
As the business climate grows tougher, more companies, large and small, are looking towards the public sector marketplace to sustain their revenues. Steve Taylor, Information Manager for Black Country Chamber and Business Link, explains how Tenders.co.uk has helped them promote growth in the local economy.
As well as being the largest business support agency in the Black Country, formed from the merger of three Chambers of Commerce and four Business Links, Black Country Chamber and Business Link also presides over what was one of England’s economically hardest hit areas, due to changes in industrial practices. The area has, however, undergone an economic rejuvenation in recent years, and this has been assisted by the activities of the agency.
As part of its range of business support services, Black Country Chamber and Business Link decided to offer its clients a tendering information service in order to help them approach the local authorities for business.
The system chosen to provide the information is Tenders.co.uk, produced by Justis Publishing Limited. Steve Taylor says: “We chose Tenders.co.uk because the interface is very easy and straightforward to use, with excellent reliability, and new tenders are added daily so it’s always up to date.”
As part of its strategy to boost the local economy, the agency aims to raise awareness of the possibilities offered by public sector procurement by getting local companies to tender for local government contracts. Three people are currently using the service each day and the number of requests for tenders is increasing. “The information provided to us by Tenders.co.uk encourages our local companies to trade with local authorities, hence the local economy benefits. We can satisfy more requests for tenders, both past and present, and there are constantly more companies interested”, says Mr Taylor.
The agency needed a solution which was not only suited to their requirements but which also enabled them to provide a cost-effective service to local companies. Mr Taylor says: “The price was fantastic. When we first signed up to Tenders.co.uk, we weren’t sure what it would do for us, but the product has exceeded all expectations”.
